The origin of statistical conferences in Radenci can be traced back to 1987 and 1989; however, at that time they were attended only by participants from Slovenia and other republics of the then Yugoslavia. From the very beginning the conference strived to connect statistical users, academic statistics and national statistics.

As Slovenia won independence in 1991, we broke up with the federal statistical institute, which showed no interest to hand over methodological practice for surveys it used to implement for the whole country. Nevertheless, with hard work we managed to lift national statistics in Slovenia to a high level of expertise and international recognition.

Between 1990 and 1992, during the break-up of our former federal country and establishing of independent Slovenia, statistical meetings were not held.

In 1993, for the first time in independent Slovenia, the meeting outgrew national boundaries and became internationally known and recognised. Statistics have become even more important for planning, managing and monitoring the development of a new country.

The number of participants from abroad has been constantly rising. And again we were joined by our statistical colleagues from other republic of former Yugoslavia.

Through the years the conferences have tackled topical issues from inflation (the first conference), to open market economy (the first conference in independent Slovenia), to European Union, globalisation, etc., to this years central theme.

Over the years our meetings have become a tradition.
